2009 was a successful year and we had many items of note and interest to keep us busy. Some of the highlights include:

COL Keene has retired from Amica Insurance and is currently serving in a full-time status with the State Headquarters and has been doing quite a bit of traveling for them.

Although we lost a couple of people in 2009, that will be sorely missed, we have been very diligent in finding replacements and SOD-G is almost 100% strength now. The full time office was decimated with the losses of MAJ Mike Manning, who is attending his intermediate Officer education at the Navy War College but will hopefully return upon completion and MSG John Nolan who was promoted to Sergeant Major and then subsequently took a job as the State J-3 (Operations) Sergeant Major.  Luckily MSG Scott McCoid has more than stepped in and taken a temporary three year AGR tour as one of our Full-timers and has been doing a great job filling in for the two of them.  We have also had the luxury of putting some other people on temporary orders to assist him in his endeavors. Active recruiting has paid off with the additions of some outstanding 18A’s (SF Officers) and some fine NCOs. This has allowed us to put together one of the finest units in the State.

At the invitation of BG Pagan, Commander of Special Operation Command South (SOCSOUTH), we have 4 members of SOD-G that have continued to serve on Active Duty at SOCSOUTH in Homestead, FL.  They continue to do a great job and the Commander continues to stress his pleasure with our SOD members. We are looking forward to a great year and will update you on the goings on often.

Sincerely,

-SGM Lewis
